Bulk importing historic orders (Matrixify, Shopify CSV)
When you bulk-import historic orders into Shopify using tools like Matrixify or Shopify's native CSV import, Shopify fires an orders/create webhook for each imported order.
Simple Bundles receives these webhooks and processes them the same way it handles live customer orders: running bundle breakdown, syncing inventory, and creating associated orders when needed.
What can go wrong
On large imports (thousands or millions of orders), this causes problems:
- Inventory drain - Simple Bundles deducts component inventory for each historic bundle order, even though these orders were already fulfilled long ago.
- Duplicate-looking orders - Associated orders may be created for bundles that couldn't be edited, cluttering your order list.
- Processing delays - The import floods the system with webhook jobs, slowing down processing for real orders.
How to avoid this
We have a backend feature flag that pauses bundle order processing for your store during the import. While enabled:
- Simple Bundles skips all Shopify order editing
- No bundle breakdown or line item creation
- No inventory adjustments
- No associated orders created
Order records are still saved to the Simple Bundles database, so reporting remains intact.
Before you start your import
Contact our support team at hello@simplebundles.io before you begin. Let us know:
- Your store URL
- Approximately how many orders you're importing
- When you plan to start
We'll enable the flag for your store. Once your import is complete, reply to the same thread, and we'll turn it back off so normal order processing resumes.
