Simple Bundles is not affected by the October 2026 Node.js vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-111497)

Simple Bundles is not affected by the Node.js vulnerabilities fixed in the October 2026 Node.js security release, including CVE-2026-111497 (sometimes called Node2Shell). The Simple Bundles app is built on Ruby on Rails and does not run Node.js on its servers, so there is nothing to patch on our side and no action needed on yours.

What happened?

On October 21, 2026, the Node.js project released fixes for 10 vulnerabilities. The most serious, CVE-2026-111497, is a flaw in how Node.js decompresses Brotli data, which can let an attacker run code on a server running an unpatched version of Node.js.

Does Simple Bundles use Node.js?

Not on its servers. The Simple Bundles app and its background jobs run on Ruby on Rails. Our developers use Node.js tools only to prepare files before the app is deployed, and those tools don't run on our servers or handle requests from your store.

Do I need to do anything in my Shopify store?

No changes are needed in Simple Bundles or your Simple Bundles settings. Your storefront and checkout are hosted by Shopify, and Simple Bundles connects to your store through Shopify's official APIs.

What if I use other tools that run on Node.js?

If your business runs Node.js software outside of Shopify, such as a custom app or a headless storefront you host yourself, check with that vendor or your developer about updating to Node.js 22.23.4, 24.22.1 or 26.12.1. This summary of the Node.js release lists all 10 vulnerabilities.
