How to test your bundle before launching it

Before you launch a bundle, run it through your storefront and checkout once to confirm that customers can buy it and that it breaks down into its component products. The quickest way is the Test bundle button at the top of the bundle page in Simple Bundles.

Testing your bundle in the Simple Bundles app

Before you test: make the bundle product visible

Simple Bundles can only open a bundle on your storefront if Shopify is showing it there. On the bundle's Shopify product page:

  1. Set the product Status to Active.
  2. Under Publishing, make sure Online Store is selected as a sales channel.
  3. Click Save.

If the bundle is still in Draft when you click Test bundle, Simple Bundles shows a Prepare your bundle for testing window with these same steps and a Go to Shopify product page button.

Not ready for customers to see it yet? You can keep the bundle out of your menus and collections while it's active, or test on a development store. See How to access Simple Bundles in a Development store.

How to test a bundle

  1. In Simple Bundles, open the bundle you want to test.
  2. Click Test bundle at the top of the page.
  3. Follow the steps for your bundle type below.

Simple Bundles (fixed bundles and multipacks)

Test bundle opens a new tab with one of the bundles already in a cart, so you go straight to checkout. At checkout, check that the bundle shows its component products listed underneath it.

Infinite Options bundles

Test bundle opens the bundle's product page on your online store. Pick an option from each dropdown, add the bundle to the cart, and go to checkout. Try a few different combinations, including any options that change the price.

Build Your Own Bundle (BYOB)

BYOB bundles don't have a Test bundle button. Open the page where you added the BYOB block, fill the box, add it to the cart, and go to checkout.

What to check

Where What you should see
Product page The bundle loads, shows the right price, and every option you set up is available.
Cart and checkout The bundle appears with its component products listed under it, at the bundle price.
Order in Shopify admin The order lists the component products so your team or 3PL can fulfill them.
Inventory Stock is deducted from the component products, and the bundle's available quantity updates.

To place a full test order without being charged, turn on test mode for your payment provider in Shopify. See Shopify's guide to placing test orders. Cancel and restock the test order when you're done.

Troubleshooting

Why do I get a 404 "Page not found" when I click Test bundle?

The bundle product is either not Active or not published to the Online Store sales channel. See Why am I getting a 404 "Page Not Found" error when testing my bundle?

Why does my bundle show as sold out?

One of the component products is out of stock, or its inventory isn't available at the right location. See Why does my bundle show as out of stock (or sold out) when I have available inventory?

Why didn't the bundle break down into its products at checkout?

See Why didn't my bundle break down into individual SKUs? for the common causes and fixes. For how breakdown normally works, see How Simple Bundles breaks bundles into individual line items on orders.
