How to build your first product bundle in Simple Bundles 2.0 (Beginner’s guide)

The three types of bundles

On Simple Bundles, there are three bundle types: Simple Bundles, Infinite Options bundles, and BYOB (Build Your Own Bundle).

• The Simple Bundles type is recommended for bundles with a fixed set of products or limited bundle variants.
• The Infinite Options Bundles type is recommended for bundles that exceed Shopify's 2,048 variant and 3 option limit, or that require more complex bundle offerings such as mix-and-match bundles.
• The BYOB type is recommended when you want customers to build their own bundle from a broader product grid, picking whatever items they like up to a pack size, with a discount that grows as they add more.

Bundle Magic: build a bundle by describing it

If you'd rather skip manual setup entirely, Bundle Magic lets you describe the bundle you want in plain language, and it will build it for you.

To use it:

1. In the "Describe your bundle, and we'll bring it to life" box, write a detailed description of the bundle you want (for example, "Build a bundle called 'Outfit Set' that includes a T-shirt, pants, and socks at 20% off, plus a free cap"), or choose one of the provided templates to start from.
2. Use Add products to select the specific products you want included, and Add a reference image if you'd like the bundle's look based on an image.
3. You can type @  in the description box to reference a specific selected product, or #  to reference a selected variant. Press Tab to jump to the next placeholder in your description.
4. Be sure to include at least one product before continuing; the "Add a description to continue" button will activate once your description and products are ready.

Building a Simple Bundle

1. Select Build bundle manually in the Bundles tab.
2. Select Simple Bundle in the Select bundle type modal.
3. Choose whether to Create a new bundle product or Select an existing bundle product. If you decide to create a new bundle, you'll need to provide details similar to those required when adding a new product on Shopify.
4. Find and select the product you want to assign as your bundle and select Add. If your bundle product has variant options, you can select those as well. These variants can be created in your Shopify admin product editor. If you want variant options that exceed Shopify's 2,048 variant and 3 option limit, use the Infinite Options Bundle type instead.
5. In the Bundle editor, select Add products and select the child products you want in your bundle. Add the bundle price or set a bundle discount. You can also choose to "Sync bundle price based on the value of its contents" or "Update bundle compare at price in Shopify." Click Save. If you have multiple bundle variants created on Shopify, repeat this step for each variant.
6. Test your bundle by clicking Test bundle which takes you to a prefilled cart containing your bundle in your online store. Place a test order to simulate how the bundle will look to your customer and to you in your Shopify Admin > Orders.

To make sure your updates sync with Shopify

If you've made changes directly in the Simple Bundles app such as updating prices, editing bundle components, or ensuring metafields are correctly applied, you'll need to manually trigger a sync to reflect those updates in Shopify.

To do that:

1. Open the updated bundle in the Simple Bundles app
2. Click More actions → Re-sync with Shopify
3. Wait a few moments for the sync to complete

This ensures your changes, whether pricing, inventory, or metafields, are accurately pushed to Shopify and visible on your product page and admin.

Building an Infinite Options Bundle

1. Select Build bundle manually in the Bundles tab.
2. Select Infinite Options Bundle in the Select bundle type modal.
3. Choose whether to Create a new bundle product or Select an existing bundle product.
4. Find and select the product you want to assign as your bundle and select Add.
5. Choose how you want to assemble your bundle using the options "Quickly build using existing product variants" or "Manually build by creating new product options for high customization"
6. If you selected "Quickly build using existing product variants," continue to the next step. If you selected "Manually build by creating new product options for high customization", continue to follow the steps in this help doc. To create bundles using the Quickly build method, refer to this guide.
7. Add products to your bundle product and adjust their quantities. Add the bundle price and click Save.
8. Preview your bundle options on the left sidebar. To allow your customers to view the bundle options, add the widget to the product page of your theme by selecting Open theme editor. Turn on the Simple Bundle toggle. You'll be able to see the dropdown widget when you visit any Infinite Options Bundle product page, no code required!
9. Test your bundle by clicking Test bundle which takes you to a prefilled cart containing your bundle in your online store. Place a test order to simulate how the bundle will look to your customer and to you in your Shopify Admin > Orders.

Building a BYOB (Build Your Own Bundle)

BYOB lets customers build their own bundle by picking products from a visual grid and filling their box, with a discount that grows as they add more items. No theme code is required to set up the shopping experience.

To get started:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps and open Simple Bundles & Kits.
2. In the left sidebar, select BYOB, then click Create bundle.
3. Add your bundle details, choose which products customers can pick from, and set your pricing (based on items selected, or a fixed price) and pack sizes.
4. Enable the BYOB app embed in your theme so the builder displays on your storefront.

How is my bundle inventory calculated?

To prevent overselling, bundle inventory is calculated based on the number of bundles that can be created using the available child product inventory quantities.

In your product editor in your Shopify admin, ensure Track quantity is enabled. We recommend unchecking Continue selling when out of stock to avoid negative inventories.

What you see on your Orders page

Once you've created a test order or made your first bundle sale, you can view the order from the Orders page in your Shopify admin. You'll see your bundle broken down into its child products for easy order fulfillment and inventory tracking.
