Which Simple Bundles bundle type should I use? (Simple Bundle vs. Infinite Options vs. BYOB)
Simple Bundles has three bundle types. Use a Simple Bundle when the contents are fixed (kits, gift sets, 3-packs). Use Infinite Options when customers choose a size, color, or flavor for items inside the bundle. Use BYOB (Build Your Own Bundle) when customers pick their own products from a grid, like "pick any 3, 5, or 8."

Which bundle type should I use?
Answer these two questions about the bundle you want to sell:
- Does the customer choose anything inside the bundle? If no, use a Simple Bundle. This covers fixed kits, gift boxes, and multipacks of the same product (e.g., a 3-pack or 12-pack).
- If they do choose, are they picking options for set items, or picking which products go in? Picking a size, color, scent, or flavor for items you've already chosen is Infinite Options. Picking which products go in the box from a wider selection is BYOB.
A Simple Bundle can also handle choices when they fit into normal Shopify variants on the bundle product (up to 3 options and 2,048 variants), such as a kit sold in Small, Medium, and Large. Once you need more combinations than that, switch to Infinite Options.
Simple Bundle: fixed kits and multipacks
Best for: a curated set of products sold together at one price, such as trios, duos, gift sets, "the everyday kit," or multiple units of the same product (2-pack, 6-pack, 12-pack).
How customers experience it: one product page with the bundle contents already put together. If your bundle product has variant options (e.g., size or color), customers choose between them on the product page like a normal Shopify product. They're choosing a variant of the whole kit rather than customizing what's inside it.
Strengths:
- The fastest bundle type to set up, since it uses Shopify's native variants.
- No app embed needed, so it works with any theme without extra setup.
- Supports variant choice on the product page (e.g., "Single" vs. "3-pack," or "Small" vs. "Large" kit) without asking customers to configure the contents themselves.
Keep in mind: Simple Bundle is built on Shopify's native variant system, which is capped at 2,048 variants and 3 options per product. If you see the error "This bundle can't have more than 3 options" or need more combinations, use Infinite Options instead.

Infinite Options: customers choose options for each item
Best for: bundles where customers pick a variant for each item inside, like a hoodie and jogger set where each piece has its own size, a 3-pack where each item can be a different color, or a necklace where customers choose the chain and the pendant.
How customers experience it: dropdowns or visual swatches on the product page, one selector per item, so customers can mix and match within the bundle.
Strengths:
- Removes Shopify's 2,048 variant and 3 option limit, so bundles with many possible combinations are fine.
- A bundle can mix fixed items (always included) with items the customer chooses.
- Dropdowns can be turned into color or image swatches to match your brand.
- Supports optional add-ons with dynamic pricing, where the price updates based on what the customer selects.
Keep in mind: Infinite Options doesn't use Shopify's native variants, so the option selector needs to be added to your product page. This is usually a quick app embed toggle in the theme editor, no code required. Because it relies on an app embed, Infinite Options isn't available on the Shopify Starter plan.
BYOB (Build Your Own Bundle): customers choose the products
Best for: letting customers build their own box from a wider product selection, picking exactly what they want up to a pack size, with a discount that grows as they add more. Also called "build a box," "pick and mix," or a mix-and-match box.
How customers experience it: a visual grid of your products, pack size options like "Pick any 3, 5, or 8," and a live discount that updates as items are added.
Strengths:
- The most flexible, customer-driven experience of the three. Works well for sampler packs, snack boxes, variety packs, and custom skincare sets.
- Built-in tiered discounting rewards customers for adding more items.
- You control which products appear, the pack sizes, and the pricing (per item selected or a fixed price).
- No theme code required to set up the shopping experience.
Keep in mind: like Infinite Options, the BYOB app embed needs to be enabled in your theme before the builder shows on your product page. You set the pack sizes customers choose from (e.g., 3, 5, or 8), so it isn't an unlimited quantity picker.
Which bundle type fits my scenario?

What's the difference between Infinite Options and BYOB?
Both let customers make choices, but they decide different things. With Infinite Options, you decide which products are in the bundle, and customers choose the options for each one (size, color, flavor). With BYOB, customers decide which products go in the bundle, picking from a grid of products you've made available.
If your question is "which size?", use Infinite Options. If it's "which products?", use BYOB.
How do I make a multipack of the same product?
Use a Simple Bundle. Create a bundle product (or a variant on your existing product, such as "3-pack"), then add the single product as the bundle content with a quantity of 3. Inventory is deducted from the single product, so you don't need to track stock for the pack separately. The multipack video walkthrough shows each step.
If customers should choose a color or size for each unit in the pack, use Infinite Options instead.
